WriteGirl Founder Keren Taylor Named CNN Hero
/Keren Taylor, executive director of WriteGirl, has been selected as a CNN Hero for her work empowering thousands of at-risk teen girls in Los Angeles. CNN Heroes selected Taylor from more than 10,000 individuals worldwide.
An accomplished poet and songwriter, Taylor’s passion for writing grew into something greater 12 years ago when she founded WriteGirl, which has helped hundreds of teen girls discover their voices through mentoring and creative writing.
"Girls need help and support to know that their voices matter,” said Keren Taylor. “While they might struggle with all kinds of obstacles at home, at school and in their neighborhoods, we have built a place here at WriteGirl where they can explore their creative ideas and write their way to brilliant futures. You should see and hear our girls once they've spent even a few months at WriteGirl — they are unstoppable!"
CNN Heroes are selected from viewer nominations submitted at CNNHeroes.com. A CNN Hero is profiled each week on CNN and on CNN.com. This fall, the Top 10 CNN Heroes of the year will be announced. From the Top 10, viewers vote online for the CNN Hero of the Year. Since 2007, the campaign has profiled nearly 200 CNN Heroes working in 77 countries around the world, helping hundreds of thousands of people.
