WriteGirl welcomes a record number of girls to Mentee Welcome Day

WriteGirl welcomed a record number of new and returning girls to the annual Mentee Welcome Day at Impact Hub in Downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 3. In total, 101 teen girls and 52 volunteer mentors set off on this season's WriteGirl journey with boarding passes and passports to a series of travel-themed writing activities created and MC'd by WriteGirl Curriculum Director Kirsten Giles.

Executive Director Keren Taylor and Associate Director Allison Deegan met with every new and returning mentee to get to know her goals, interests, hopes, and expectations for the season in preparation for the mentor matching process. Girls also selected brand new journals and traveled to various creative writing stations to explore fun writing exercises in genres including poetry, fiction, songwriting, and journalism.
